About Us

Who We Are

At Fairfield Presbyterian Church, we follow Jesus with passion and purpose

We are a small but friendly, accepting and prayerful group of believers. We come from different backgrounds however our love for Jesus has drawn us together as the family of God. We have experienced loss, hardship and illness, however joy, peace, healing and forgiveness come when we pray together as a family, praying for one another and for the world around us. Come Join Us!

Mission Statement

The mission of Fairfield Presbyterian Church is to:

  • Make disciples for Jesus
  • Teach them according to God’s word

  • Minister to our fellow believers

  • Support those in full-time mission work

  • Provide assistance to the hungry and poor

  • Testify about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection
  • Demonstrate God’s love to the people of our community and to the ends of the earth

Vision

Because our heart is global, we are passionate about sending as many people as we can on short-term Global Teams, while also equipping missionaries and ministries worldwide. We believe in this so much that we tithe on the tithe, which means that for every tithe dollar we receive, we set aside 10% to support monthly missions around the world.

Mission

Through Pastor Rob’s unique and practical preaching style, vision casting and gifts of leadership, he encourages people to live out River Valley’s mission of cultivating an authentic, life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Jana Childers

The Rev. Dr. Jana Childers, M.Div., Ph.D. is a Presbyterian pastor who joined the ministry of Fairfield Presbyterian Church in 2023. Prior to coming to Fairfield, Jana was Professor of Homiletics and Dean of the Seminary at San Francisco Theological Seminary where she taught preaching to several generations of exceptional students.

Dr. Childers is the author and editor of numerous books and articles on preaching, including Performing the Word: Preaching as Theatre and the award-winning Birthing the Sermon: Women Preachers on Creative Process. She was featured on the Hallmark Channel’s Great Preachers series, appeared on the Chicago Sunday Evening Club, and co-hosted Mosaic, a Sunday morning TV show on San Francisco’s CBS affiliate, KPIX.

As Pastor Jana puts it, she was “bowled over by the people and ministry of FPC the first day she walked through the door”. In the church in Fairfield she found a one-in-a-million congregation of loving people whose warmth and openness astonished her. It’s a sensation she continues to enjoy, she says, week after week.

Meet our Music Minister

Andrea Glenn

Music Minister

Andrea Glenn is an inspiring song writer, speaker and worship leader, serving the Lord for over 40 years. She graduated from Oral Roberts University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance, playing the Euphonium and Trombone, and a Bible minor. Her heart for ministry flows from a deep love for the Lord, and was shaped through her time in Celebrant Singers, with whom she traveled as a missionary throughout 24 countries, her nearly four years at Integrity Music, and as co-interim worship leader at Christ Church in Mobile, Alabama. Since accepting the Lord in 1973, and growing up as a teenager at Fairfield Presbyterian Church, Andrea has used her songs, written and recorded, to minister God’s comfort to hurting hearts.

History

Our History

Welcome to Fairfield Presbyterian! Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a new family, we are excited about your decision to visit our church. We know finding the right place to worship can be a big step, and we are honored you’ve chosen to be here with us.

In the 1960's the lot at 2100 Pennsylvania Ave was purchased and the main Sanctuary was built. By the 1970's a Narthex, offices, social hall with a kitchen, and an education wing were added. In the 1990's, the Family Life Center was built behind the main Church building that included a gymnasium, a stage, a commercial kitchen and classrooms.

By that time, Fairfield Presbyterian was a large and thriving church, with a congregation numbering over 300 members. The church was blessed to have the spiritual leadership of Pastors William M. Witt, Gary Foster, Rod Fridlund, Lance Laiblin, Jim Davis, and Robert Grove.

Over the years, the church was also blessed to have several great choir directors and music ministers keeping the traditional sacred hymns and praise music alive. The Church had choirs for both adults and children, a bell choir, praise teams and a praise band.

For over some 40 years, the church was an active and vibrant community with classes for all ages - small groups, Jr and Sr high youth groups, children's Logos program and Vacation Bible School every summer. In addition, our Deacons operated a weekly food pantry program for several decades, serving the hungry in our community.

Fairfield Presbyterian Church Today

We, like many other main line churches, have suffered a decline. As a result, we have sold our church campus to Bay North Church of Christ. However we still continue to hold Worship Services in the main building thanks to Pastor Sam Morris and the wonderful relationship we have developed with the Bay North Church of Christ community.

God has reminded us time and again that He is not done with us yet. We are a friendly,  loving, accepting and prayerful group of believers. Many of us have suffered loss, hardship and illness – and yet God who holds all of our hearts and has brought healing and peace, and gotten us through many trials.

If you are looking for a place where you can be seen, heard, and prayed for, where you can learn about Jesus, get active and help make a difference, this church is for you.

We are blessed to have several extremely knowledgeable pastors who come and share the Word of God with us on a rotating basis on Sundays. We consider them a beloved part of our church family.

Music is provided by our very talented Music Minister and song writer, Andrea Glenn, to help take us into the inner chamber with God through her special music.
